It was crazy difficult for our guest from Orania to choose a Neighbourhood Champion so what they did, which we think is pretty awesome, is as well as a winner they chose to send a wee thank you gift to the three ‘runners up’.  Very cool!

Marjorie was nominated by Nicole for helping out at a really challenging time for her and her family.  Here is the story she sent in (edited by Neighbours Day to maintain privacy as requested by Nicole)

I would like to nominate my mum’s neighbour Marjorie  for this prize.  Last year my mum received the devastating news that she had cancer and as a result of this was required to have major surgery that will impact her for the rest of her life.  This was a very trying and stressful time for our family, especially for me as I live overseas.  Mum’s neighbour Marjorie was amazing – before, during and after the ordeal.  Before the surgery she was so supportive to mum, driving and accompanying her to different appointments, lending an ear to mum when mum needed to talk as well as helping mum make decisions about her future.   Mum was hospitalised for 3 weeks, during this time I was in NZ travelling daily between home and the hospital, which was a very very long return trip.   Marjorie gave me support through what was a pretty emotional, exhausting and stressful time.  Finally when mum returned home again Marjorie was there, lending a hand to help mum – with household tasks, bringing her meals, taking her shopping and even wrapping her xmas presents as well as continuing to support her emotionally.

I really can’t thank Marjorie enough for all that she has done for me and my family in the last six months and would love her to win your prize.”
