It was crazy difficult for our guest from Orania to choose a Neighbourhood Champion so what they did, which we think is pretty awesome, is as well as a winner they chose to send a wee thank you gift to the three ‘runners up’.  Very cool!

Sheila was nominated by Jim.  Here’s the story he sent in.

I would dearly love to enter the following person into your competition.  Her name is Sheila of New Plymouth.

Sheila, whom we didn’t know all that well, although she is a next door neighbour, was absolutely wonderful when both my wife and I were ill.  I am 72 yrs of age, and have beenseverely disabled for many years following a rugby accident playing for Taranaki.  I am wheelchair bound after spending sometime at the Burwood Spinal Unit.  I rely on my wife for all my everyday needs as I am not able to do even the mundane things for myself.

About 8 months ago my wife was visiting our son in Ottawa, Canada.  One day she slipped on a mat and went straight to hospital unconscious.  She continued to suffer after effects until now.  On top of that she also got pneumonia.  She was a complete mess.

Unable to do very little between the two of us, Sheila made meals that we could eat at the time or put in the freezer.  She also arranged a weed patrol where a group of neighbour’s attended to my wife’s excellent garden.  She always asks if she can get anything from town when she has to travel into town.  Sheila is into her 80’s doesn’t keep the best of health but she continues to put people before herself.

She always checks on those in bad health then does what she has to, to make life easier. Sheila is involved in a lot of local organizations eg save Bowl of Brooklands , Len Lye, and Operatunity.  Sheila is a very worthy entrant into your competition.

Jim’s not wrong, and we’re delighted and Orania have chosen to send a thank you gift to Sheila aswell.
