Neighbours helping neighbours is how communities respond to disasters, and Neighbours Day is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbours. In conjunction with Tawa New World, we're hosting a Neighbours Day event in the mall on Saturday 25th of March from 10am - 3pm. You can find out about your local Community Emergency Hubs (formerly known as Civil Defence Centres) - how they work (hint: they are run by the community - neighbours helping neighbours!) , what's there, and what's not there. You can also have a look at Tawa's Community Response Plan, and make additions to it! Anyone who contributes to the plan goes in the draw to win some cool prizes! Tawa New World will have BBQ packs available for all your Neighbours Day BBQ needs, as well as signage highlighting useful emergency supplies within their store so that you can stock your pantry to be able to camp at home. Councillor Malcolm Sparrow will be organising a delivery of water tanks that day, so if you would like to order one to pick up that Saturday, please contact him directly. We'll also be collecting details for anyone who would like to order one for a later delivery. Community projects that help keep people working together are a great tool for building resilient communities, so if you'd like to promote your community project at this event and find more participants, email me! - kerry.mcsaveney@gw.govt.nz. Also email me if you'd like to promote your community group and how it could contribute in response to an emergency in Tawa!
