Eden Park is very aware of the impact it has on its neighbours. With national games happening at the stadium throughout the year and ongoing road closures, there can be disruption to normal life on a regular basis.
“We wanted to do something nice for our neighbours and start the season with good will”, says Graham, Liaison Officer for Eden Park. The Park also has a neighbours and residents association so that they can deal with any issues directly and work together on solutions.
On March 6 2014, Eden Park opened up its gates to the neighbours and had a family BBQ. There were games and activities for the kids and a huge spread put on for the neighbourhood to enjoy a communal meal together. The field was abuzz with locals chatting, eating and playing together.
Businesses often operate in neighbourhoods and having positive ongoing relationships with neighbours can help to strengthen connections with the local community.
